Certificate of Analysis

Every batch ships with a third-party COA verifying identity (mass spectrometry), purity (HPLC ≥98%), and endotoxin levels (<1 EU/μg by LAL method).

Certificate of Analysis (COA) Lookup

At LarnaLabs, every product we ship is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis. Our COAs represent our commitment to transparency, quality, and scientific integrity. This page explains what a COA is, how to obtain yours, and how to interpret the data it contains.

What Is a Certificate of Analysis?

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a formal quality assurance document issued for a specific batch of a research compound. It contains the results of analytical tests performed on that batch, confirming the identity, purity, and other relevant properties of the material. A COA links a physical product to its analytical data, providing an auditable record that the compound meets defined quality specifications.

For research peptides, COAs are a critical part of scientific due diligence. Researchers rely on COA data to ensure the compounds used in experiments are correctly identified and meet purity thresholds that ensure experimental validity. Using an uncharacterized compound without COA verification can introduce confounding variables and compromise the integrity of research data.

What Is Included in a LarnaLabs COA

Each LarnaLabs Certificate of Analysis contains the following information:

  • Product Name and Peptide Sequence: The full systematic name and amino acid sequence of the compound, confirming identity.
  • Batch Number: A unique identifier linking the COA to a specific manufacturing lot, enabling full traceability.
  • Molecular Formula and Molecular Weight: The theoretical molecular formula and weight, confirmed against the detected mass.
  • Purity Analysis (HPLC): High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) purity data expressed as a percentage. LarnaLabs products are typically supplied at greater than or equal to 98% purity unless otherwise specified.
  • Mass Spectrometry Confirmation: Mass spectrometry (MS) data confirming the correct molecular weight of the synthesized compound, providing definitive identity verification.
  • Appearance: Physical description of the product (e.g., white to off-white lyophilized powder).
  • Solubility Test Results: Where applicable, solubility data confirming the compound dissolves as expected in the recommended solvent.
  • Testing Laboratory: The independent third-party laboratory that performed the analysis, including laboratory accreditation details where available.
  • Date of Analysis: The date the analytical testing was performed.
  • Storage Recommendations: Recommended storage conditions for the specific compound.

How to Obtain Your COA

Your COA is automatically included with every order. Here is how to access it:

  • Email delivery: A PDF copy of the COA for each product in your order is sent to your registered email address at the time of dispatch.
  • Order confirmation: Your order confirmation email contains a link to your account portal where COA documents can be downloaded.
  • Printed copy: A printed COA is included inside the package with your order.

If you need a replacement copy of your COA, use the lookup tool below or contact us directly.

How to Read a Certificate of Analysis

Understanding a COA helps you evaluate compound quality before use in your research. Here is a guide to interpreting the key data fields:

HPLC Purity Percentage

This is the most critical data point for research peptides. Purity is determined by reversed-phase HPLC, which separates the target compound from impurities (truncated sequences, deletion peptides, oxidized forms, etc.) based on hydrophobicity. The purity percentage represents the area of the target compound peak divided by the total peak area, expressed as a percentage. LarnaLabs products are supplied at a minimum of 98% purity unless the product listing specifies otherwise. For sensitive cell-based assays or structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies, higher purity reduces the risk of off-target effects from impurities.

Mass Spectrometry Data

The observed molecular weight (m/z) should match the theoretical molecular weight of the peptide sequence within the instrument’s mass accuracy tolerance (typically +/- 0.5 Da or better). Confirm that the monoisotopic or average molecular weight reported matches the known formula weight of the compound. Multi-charge state ions ([M+H]+, [M+2H]2+, etc.) are normal for larger peptides.

Batch Number

The batch number ties the specific vial you received to the analytical data in the COA. If you are reporting research results, record the batch number so your work is reproducible and the exact material can be referenced.

Date of Analysis

Confirm the analysis date is consistent with the product being recently manufactured. All LarnaLabs products are tested prior to dispatch.

Frequently Asked Questions About COAs

Is the purity guaranteed on every vial I receive?

Yes. Our COAs are batch-specific, meaning the analytical data applies to the specific lot from which your vial was filled. If your vial comes from batch LL-2024-0312, your COA shows the purity and identity data for that exact batch.

Who performs the analytical testing?

LarnaLabs uses accredited independent third-party analytical laboratories for HPLC and mass spectrometry testing. Testing by an independent laboratory ensures objectivity and provides an additional layer of quality verification beyond in-house assessment.

What if my product does not match the COA specification?

If you believe a product does not conform to its COA specifications, please contact [email protected] immediately with your order number, batch number, and the nature of your concern. We take quality non-conformances seriously and will investigate promptly. Where a verified quality failure is confirmed, we will replace the product or issue a full refund.

Can I request additional analytical data?

For research applications requiring additional characterization data (e.g., NMR, amino acid analysis, endotoxin testing), please contact [email protected] to discuss your specific requirements. Additional testing may be available for certain products or order volumes.

Do COAs expire?

A COA reflects the analytical data at the time of testing. Products that are stored correctly retain their purity for the shelf life indicated on the product listing. A COA does not expire, but product quality may degrade if storage conditions are not maintained. For stored samples, we recommend verifying purity by re-testing if product quality is critical to your experiment and significant time has passed since receipt.
